Marquette County
2009 Choice Destination

A rare find for all who travel here, Marquette County has something for all kinds of travelers. The naturalist, the outdoor enthusiast and the person who likes to just sit back and relax will all be satisfied with this Central Wisconsin vacationland. The boyhood home of John Muir, known as The Father of our National Park System, expresses itself in a natural landscape of lakes, rivers and rolling hills. Fishing, hunting, birding, hiking, biking, backpacking and kayaking in the warmer months coupled with snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the colder months make this area great for all outdoor enthusiasts. Pair all of that with “down-home” lodging, restaurants and friendly people, and then you’ll understand why Marquette County is just another one of Wisconsin’s little hidden secrets… and a great place to vacation with everyone in your household.

Marquette County - Central Wisconsin's Finest Vacation Land
Next Airdate: June 5-6, 2010

On this episode of Discover Wisconsin we’re doing it all in Marquette County, Wisconsin. We first have a delicious breakfast and steaming cup of coffee at Charlotte’s Café before hitting the water in a boat of our choosing thanks to Rendezvous Paddle and Sports. Once off the water, a visit to TNT Health, Beauty and Fitness Spa leaves us once again feeling renewed, refreshed and ready to take on the day. A night or two at Pioneer Motor Inn, just down the road, is a relaxing finish to any day. Waking up on the “right” side of the bed we visit Prairie Nursery to plan how to create our own natural landscapes and personal sanctuaries in our yards when we get home. We’ll wrap up our whirlwind tour with a Marquette County gem, Maggie Mae herself. We’ll eat, listen and dance our way through a day with her music and her spunky personality. After seeing all this, you’ll be planning your Marquette County vacation before we even have time to roll the credits.

Marquette County is a place where the pace of life slows down and the beauty of nature takes center stage. And this week we’ll show you some of the area’s scenic sites that are truly inspirational. We’ll also take you bird watching at a park that once was home to famous naturalist John Muir. And you’ll see why the area is known as Sandhill Crane Country. You can check out why you won’t have to travel all the way to the Great Plains in order to have a close encounter with the American Bison. And we’ll visit a ranch with animals that are a little smaller in stature – it’s a miniature horse ranch! Find out why Marquette County is also a sportsman’s paradise with amazing public hunting and fishing opportunities. With all kinds of recreational opportunities in the area, Marquette County is a great place for a relaxing visit that will leave you refreshed and renewed.
