Milwaukee, WI
2008 Choice Destination

As the state's largest city, there is always something going on in Milwaukee! Sports fans can break out the charcoal, beer and brats for tailgating at Miller Park, then root for the Brewers and the Klements’ Sausages, under the park’s signature fan-shaped convertible roof. The downtown area is home to many sporting venues too; you can cheer on the Milwaukee Bucks, the Wave or the Admirals…all within two city blocks! Another must-stop location is the Milwaukee lakefront. Take a bike, in-line skates, run or just simply walk along the shore of Lake Michigan and enjoy the lakefront areas of Milwaukee. There are tons of things to do, including taking a paddleboat on the water or flying a kite along the shoreline. Milwaukee’s RiverWalk and Historic Districts also offer walking routes which highlight many great examples of old world architecture as well as historical markers. Milwaukee embraces its multi-cultural heritage, which is apparent through the large variety of restaurants, museums, cultural attractions, festivals, recreation and neighborhoods that showcase many ethnic groups that make up Greater Milwaukee. The city is also known for its large variety of restaurants, brewpubs, exciting nightlife, shops and of course its Lakefront Festivals that seemingly never end. The Henry Maier Festival Park hosts Summerfest, German Fest, Festa Italiana, African World Festival and many, many more. Milwaukee is also known for its cultural arts. In fact, the United Performing Arts Fund ranked Milwaukee number one in the nation for financial donations (per capita) towards the Arts. There’s something for every visitor in Milwaukee including opera companies, a world-class symphony, a nationally acclaimed ballet company and an array of professional dance and theater companies. Milwaukee also has a large assortment of Art Museums, including the world famous Milwaukee Art Museum, which features work from Artists such as Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Jóan Miro, Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Gober and Andy Warhol. The Milwaukee Public Museum and the William F. Eisner Museum of Advertising and Design are also top on our list. Finally, a stop at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum is a must for the kids.
