Cedarburg, WI
2010 DW Destination
Located in Ozaukee County, just 20 miles north of Milwaukee, Cedarburg is the epitome of everyone’s favorite small town getaway. You can take a step back in time as you walk through the downtown area. The influence of Cedarburg’s first German and Irish immigrants can be seen today in the architecture that still stands along Cedar Creek. More than 200 buildings have historical significance and are part of two districts which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The old mills, hotels, homes and stores that once defined the city in the 19thcentury have been preserved and restored to their former prominence and now are homes to shops, B&B’s, restaurants and even a winery. The architecture and the beauty of Cedar Creek attract artists and artisans from far and wide. The annual Plein Air Painting competition is testament to that. You can see it in the offerings on display in the many unique shops found in the city. There’s even artistry in the works of local bread and candy makers. Cedarburg is truly a place where art is a tradition and a place where you can have the perfect getaway in any season.
