Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians
The band has inhabited the Lac du Flambeau area since 1745 when Chief Keeshkemun led the band to the area. The band acquired the name Lac du Flambeau from its gathering practice of harvesting fish at night by torchlight. The name Lac du Flambeau or Lake of the Torches refers to this practice and was given to the band by the French traders and trappers who visited the area.

Lac du Flambeau Area - Fishing
Whether you’re crankin’ baits for bass, walleye, northern, or just funsie fishin’ for some slab size crappies the Lac du Flambeau main chain of 10 lakes that cover some 9,000 acres plus its 100 other concentrated bodies of water are all crystal clear spring fed mesotrophic types. Their glacier-carved structure along with weed beds, drop offs, sand bars and fish shelters offer the angler action from early spring through late fall.

Lac du Flambeau’s summer Pow-Wows give you the opportunity to watch dancers in full regalia circle to traditional song and the solemn rhythm of the beating drums or even join in during one of the many all-dance songs.
