There are over a half million acres of land to discover in the eleven sovereign nations in Wisconsin, we’re even heading out onto the largest of the Great Lakes to see how the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa got their name. We’ll also visit the biggest Pow Wow in North America for more about the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe, and we’ll learn how Wisconsin’s tribal lands are being preserved and restored to ensure the future of the resources. Try charter fishing and scuba diving on Lake Michigan, bike your way to several events along the Interurban recreational trail, travel the Wisconsin Ethnic trail to learn more about Wisconsin’s early settlers, and paddle your way down the Milwaukee River to try your luck at fly fishing. No matter how you tour Ozaukee County you’re sure to uncover some stunning treasures along the way.

Discover Wisconsin's New Host - Emmy Fink

Learn more about Emmy!

Emmy Fink grew up in rural Yorkville, located in Southeastern Wisconsin. An honors graduate of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Emmy earned a double major in Broadcast Journalism and K-12 Physical Education. She is an avid Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan, as well as a certified yoga and fitness instructor. Her broadcast career began in 2006 when she joined Madison’s CW television, becoming the face of the station, and hosting the “Buzzed into Wisconsin” segments of the nationally syndicated The Daily Buzz. Emmy was one of more than 400 participants to audition during the five-month process, and Discover Wisconsin is thrilled to have Emmy as our host as we begin our new season.

The exhibit will be available for viewing through October 31, 2012. Contact: 608-756-4509 This exhibit features quilts from the Rock County Historical Society's collection. Featured are appliquéd, pieced, embroidered and whole cloth quilts from the early 1800s to the 1950s. Included in the exhibit is a sampler quilt made by members of the Rock County Quilters Guild in honor of the Lincoln Tallman House’s 150 year anniversary. The history and pattern name of each quilt will be revealed during a "quilt turning" on scheduled days. Groups may arrange a private tour and turning. Quilt turnings are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 - 1:00 pm Monday, May 7 - 7:00 pm Sunday, May 13 (Mother's Day) - 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm Wednesday, May 23 - 5:30 pm

Walk along the garden pathways and view the leaves created by local artisans as you enjoy the beautiful surroundings in the Gardens. Now in its third year, this fundraising project encourages community participation at the Gardens, promotes local artists and raises funds for support and development of the Gardens. Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to artistically interpret a leaf design created from plywood by Rotary Botanical Gardens volunteers. There are 40 leaves in all, which will be displayed throughout the Gardens from Mother's Day through Labor Day. On September 9, 2012, the leaves will be auctioned off beginning at 1 pm in the Parker Education Center. More details regarding the auction will be provided at a later date. A great weekend event! It's a re-enactment of numerous home front activities, rather than a battlefield show. The Civil war encampment at the park features infantry, artillery and cavalry demonstrations, and camp life demonstrations by officers and soldiers' wives. Friday evening, hear the whispers of Civil War talking ghosts at Maple Hill Cemetery. Saturday, watch the drills (careful, you might be a recruit!), listen to history lectures, and enjoy a parade and concert. A ticketed Ladies Tea is offered in the afternoon; in the evening is a ball with period costuming optional. If costuming interests you even more, Sunday includes a period style show featuring the sumptuous dresses of the day. Famous historical figures will be present, too. You might just meet President Lincoln! All but the ticketed events are free. Come and go as you please; it's a great occasion for all ages to enjoy!
